Joanne E. Gates writes and teaches in Alabama. Her biography of Elizabeth Robins is now released in paperback.

In addition to her biography of Elizabeth Robins and numerous academic papers, she has published poetry as well as book and theatre reviews.  For over thirty years, Dr. Gates taught Shakespeare and Women's Literature. Her biography of Robins won the Elizabeth Agee Prize from the University of Alabama Press when it was accepted in 1991. It is now released in paperback. In early 2023, she was interviewed for Episode One of the premiere season of Natalie Kahler's Podcast on the Robins Family and their home in Brooksville, Florida.
